Cookware as Gifts: Money Spent for All the Right Reasons : cookwear store

Cookware as Gifts: Money Spent for All the Right Reasons
by Dale Crouse
plug itAs I sit here on Passover weekend and write this article, spring is here and summer is just around the corner. We are coming up on Holidays and family time that will create memories that will last long into the future. Now is a very good time to think of gifts that will be around as long as or longer than those memories. Quality cookware, flatware, bake ware and cutlery are some great ideas to consider.
May is only two weeks away with its' three holiday/family times upon us. First is Cinco de Mayo followed by Mothers Day, (Fathers Day will only be a month later), and at the end of month is Memorial Day, the beginning of summer and picnics for most people. Most of us will also have an additional reason to celebrate this year due to receiving a stimulus check from our Uncle Sam. In the hard times we are going through we need to buy or invest our money wisely. If gift purchases are to be included in these holiday/family times please read on.

If you look at the past, the cook in most families was the Mom. This does not hold true in these modern times. Most of us are on the go from morning to evening without stop. The cook in the family can be any member in the family that has time. This is all the more reason for the pots and pans used to be quality utensils. There are several ways to tell the quality of cookware, with modern manufacturing processes and metallurgy, just looking does not tell the whole story.

The most reliable way to purchase quality cookware is to do what we were taught early in life. Purchase brand name products and/or purchase products with the best guarantees, (beware of flashy or celebrity names, if you did not know of the name 10 years ago, you are most likely paying for the name not necessarily the quality). Companies that have been in business for some time means they are providing a product that justifies the cost. Some manufacturers have been in business for many years and their products are just now being offered in the United States. Take a moment to see if they are a creditable company. Check the guarantee. Pay for quality not just the name.

Consider quality cookware, bake ware and cutlery as a gift. This would not only be a great gift, but money spent on a product that will last a lifetime. The key is you don't have to spend a great deal of money to purchase a cookware gift. Purchase an individual pot or pan that would match an existing set that can go from range top to tabletop, or purchase a color cast iron pan or a heavy aluminum roaster that can go from oven to the tabletop. With the cost of gas, a trip to the mall to shop and look for a gift can cost more than the gift itself.

Authentic Mexican Food & Cookware : cookwear store

Authentic Mexican Food & Cookware
by Annie Dubois
plug itIf the sound of authentic Mexican food makes your mouth water, you may be at a point in your life where learning to cook this wondrous cuisine is the next part of your growth. As people, we are always learning, changing, evolving. Yes, life is a school, and the meals we choose to partake in are an important part of our life and the lessons we continually learn. Cooking is a great way to relax, and you may discover that cooking is the best way to insure your family eats only the healthiest of foods made by your own hands.
When cooking authentic Mexican food, the type of cookware you use will often be an important part of the success of your meal. Some types of cookware will flake or leave a nasty chemical smell while others will disperse heat differently. With so many types of pots and pans on the market today, you will need to find the right type for you and your needs. No, not everyone can use, or will choose to use, a cast iron skillet even though these are traditionally popular.

The health of your family depends on knowing type of things they are ingesting. Knowing the ingredients of a meal is a good start! However, you will also find the type of cookware and even serving platters or dishes you use can add or even take away from the things they are eating. Remaining healthy starts with educating yourself on the substances your family comes in contact with.

Take a look at a couple of these materials used to make some popular cookware!

Aluminum is a popular type of cookware for many pots and pans. Aluminum is great at conducting heat which means the heat is dispersed evenly without any hotspots, and the material is exceptionally light. However, many people find that there is something about aluminum that tends to make strong smelling foods smell even stronger. Collard greens are known for smelling strongly, and if you happened to prepare these in an aluminum pot, chances are pretty good that strong smell will be overwhelming.

There are also a lot of health concerns over aluminum cookware. Aluminum can flake off into the meal. Ingested aluminum can cause health issues if enough is taken in. This often turns people off from aluminum, but the reality is that aluminum is an affordable and great way to cook that authentic Mexican food!

Glass is another popular type of cookware. Glass is great for the microwave oven, stovetop, and in the oven. Moreover, glass is completely neutral and will not react with the food. Many people prefer glass, but it does not disperse the heat evenly as do many other types of pots or pans. You may find that you appreciate a combination of glass and metal, but be sure not to use this in the microwave.

When it comes to that authentic Mexican food and getting the best results from your cookware, you will discover that you will have your own beliefs and preferences based on how you were raised and modern technologies of the day.

What makes cookware fit for good camping? : cookwear store

What makes cookware fit for good camping?
by Melissa Thornton
plug itThe moment you go camping with the family you must be sure about the fact that the cookware you take with you is fit for the camping trip you are about to take. There is nothing worse then finding out, at the camping site, while preparing dinner, that you cookware you took with you is not fit for the job. There are a few things cookware should have, before we can call them fit for camping.
It should be Usable

When you are on a camping trip the one thing you do not want is that things are to complicated, this also applies to the cookware you take with you. It should be usable and easy. You should be able to use cookware for more then one purpose, a bowl, if it is shallow enough, could be used as a bowl but also as a plate to eat from. Or silverware that doubles as a fork and a spoon. So if you are going out to shop for, new, cookware these are the properties you should look for in the first place.

Lasting a lifetime

Your cookware should be durable, you do not want to buy cookware for every trip you go on. Cookware is something you want to keep re-using every camping trip you go on. Think about what the cookware is going to endure while your on your trip, it going to get packed in a tight space and will probable be handled roughly. So make sure that it is going to last you a lifetime.

Clean as a whistle

Have you ever been on a camping trip and ended up hating doing the dishes the most? We all have been there once at least, so you want your cookware to be easy to clean. Most times, if you like to camp in the rough, there is only some water, a bit of soap, if you are lucky. You need cookware that doesn't stain easily, but you also need to know how to protect your cookware while you are cooking.

You need to find a balance between, cheap, easy and durable. A problem, often, is that when you look at the price the easy and durable cookware caries you can get a little shock. But going to cheap can mean that your shopping for new cookware when the next trip is being planned. So you will need to find the right balance between these choices you have. A tip might be to go for the cheaper models on your first trip. Then you can test them for ease and usability and the ones you like but are not fit for another trip you can replace for a better and more durable model.

Always go to a special camping shop or outdoor specialist. You can expect to get good advice from those people as they want to see you again when you are planning for your next trip. They will have a wide range of cookware products for you to choose from, even for specific type of trips, going to high altitudes or polar expeditions, you name it.

A Well-Equipped Kitchen

A Well-Equipped Kitchen
by Toni Scottplug it
When it come to setting up a well-equipped kitchen, it is often a good idea to start from the very beginning. You may have more kitchen stuff than you use regularly with lots of tools that are no longer up to the task or have been forgotten. If you're in your first apartment or recently married, you're probably already at the very beginning and need to start from scratch... Either way, what follows is an overview of the necessities with some important notes on considerations you should make as you browse the housewares department. Let's take a look at the essential building blocks of truly functional kitchen workspace.Cutting boardsYou'll need at least two cutting boards, one for meat and one for veggies. There are myriad types on the market and you should take stock of your available storage and lifestyle before choosing. There are beautiful, functional (and very expensive) butcher-block-type cutting boards you can buy, but remember these must be meticulously cared for to avoid the cultivation of dangerous germs and NEVER soaked in water. Larger versions can take up lots of counter and storage space, so keep these things in mind before making a big investment. Plastic and silicone versions are perfectly functional for average jobs and can be easily cleaned in the dishwasher, but don't provide the surface area of the larger wooden boards.CookwareIt's easy to be overwhelmed by the choices out there when it comes to cookware. It's also very easy to spend your kids' college money on pots if you're not careful! Besides what you like the look of and what feels good in your hand, there are a few things to think about before choosing cookware. For instance, what kind of heat source does your stove-top utilize? Gas stoves work well with all kinds of cookware, but electric stoves can take longer to adjust the amount of heat being used, so you want to avoid cookware that is overly heavy, as this will delay heat adjustments even further. Finally, if you have an induction cooktop, make sure you acquaint yourself with the manufacturer's recommendations as some cookware will not allow the magnetic currents responsible for heat. If you're reassessing your current tools, inspect your non-stick pieces for scratches and other damage to the non-stick surfaces. Cookware with this damage should be replaced.10" inch skillet 8" inch skillet 1 qt saucepan 3 qt saucepan 6 qt stock or soup pot Roasting PanBakewareAnother category with lots of choices, today's bakeware includes some pieces that would leave our grandmothers stumped. some of the newest stuff--like flexible silicone muffin and loaf pans--can take some getting used to and aren't necessarily good replacements for tried and true earthware, pyrex or metal pieces.Shallow baking Pan and or "cookie" sheets (they are good for more than cookies!) 9 x 13 inch casserole 9 x 9 inch casseroleKnivesSkip the $800 knife set and get quality versions of the following essential blades to get your kitchen running:8" chef's knife Paring Knife Bread Knife Steak Knives (4-8)Sundry ToolsMeasuring Cups (dry) Measuring Cup (wet) Measuring Spoons Graduated Mixing Bowls (set 3-5) Strainer or colander Can Opener Pepper Grinder (If you're not already, get in the fresh-ground pepper habit!)UtensilsWhisk Tongs (1-2) Silicon Spatulas (2-3) Wooden Spoons (2-3) Large Spoon Large Slotted Spoon Vegetable Peeler Cheese Grater Wine opener

8 Unique Gift Ideas for the Office and Coworkers

8 Unique Gift Ideas for the Office and Coworkers
by Chris Robertson
plug itWhether it's an office holiday party, an anniversary celebration or simply an appreciation day, office gifts are great for showing you care about those you work side-by-side with each day. Not sure what gift to bring? Here are eight unique gift ideas for the office to get your wheels turning.

1. Everyday Items

No matter what the occasion, everyday items such as housewares, jewelry, bath items, kitchen items, and garden accessories still make great gifts - especially for women. Inquire beforehand about the color of their kitchen or bathroom, or the theme of their yard or garden. Then, you can choose accessories for their home or garden that will blend nicely with their home decor. They'll appreciate your thoughtfulness!

2. Collectibles

If your co-worker collects certain items such as figurines, porcelain dolls, or model cars and model ships, you can give a gift that they can add to their collection. The great thing about collectibles is they are useful, often decorative, and can be a keepsake for a lifetime.

3. Gifts for Inspiration

Inspire your co-workers with poetic books or inspirational paintings. Find out what type of art they enjoy. Also, be sure they enjoy reading before buying books. Patriotic gifts can also be inspirational.

4. Gifts for Him

For the men in your workplace, focus on gift product categories such as sporting goods, automotive, and travel. Men are often fascinated with new tools, electronic products such as cell phones and iPods, and anything to do with the outdoors.

5. Gifts for Her

When buying for a female co-worker, you usually can't go wrong with items such as housewares, health and beauty products, jewelry, photo albums, and home and bath accessories. Most women also love to shop, so gift cards to their local department store would make a great gift!

6. Gifts for the Boss

Buying for the boss can be a daunting task. Don't let it worry you. Buy for your boss just as you would anyone else. Treat him or her like they're part of the office, not just a boss. Get to know their likes and dislikes before buying. You can buy something to decorate their office or to make their work easier, or you can be more personal with your gift. Other gift ideas for bosses include pen sets, gift baskets, and organizers. If you work where it is prohibited to give individual gifts to the boss, suggest a group gift from all the workers if that's allowed.

7. Gifts for Employees

If you are "the boss" then you understand how important it is to give gifts to employees. Gifts should be given not only during holidays, but also several times throughout the year to show appreciation for an employee's hard work. Some gifts you can give employees can be gift cards, company T-shirts or sweat shirts, organizers for their desks, and best of all - a bonus check! You can also hold a company picnic for all employees to enjoy.

8. Office Chinese Auction Gifts

If your office is holding a Chinese auction for gift-exchanges, then consider a gift that would be fitting for a male or female. Some ideas are decorative items such as wall clocks or wall calendars, or office-related items. There are also gift cards, tickets to a popular local event, and electronics.

To find great gifts for the office, you can visit an online store and enjoy shopping from home. At online stores, you can find all your gifts plus other items, such as toys, sports memorabilia, men's and women's apparel, and more. Some sites even offer a gift registry for bridal and baby showers. You can search for gifts and other products through categories and easily find what you need.

Use these office gift ideas for guidance as you buy gifts for your co-workers, employees, or boss on the next special occasion.
